2025 Topps Chrome & Paul Skenes's First Post-Rookie Chrome

If you already own — or priced — Paul Skenes’s 2024 rookie Chrome and want the same look for less, 2025 Topps Chrome is the set to know. It’s his first post-rookie Chrome: the same refractor rainbow and numbered colored parallels as his rookie year, without the RC logo or the rookie-year price tag. For a collector chasing his current cards or an affordable colored refractor, this is where to look.

Not a rookie card — and that’s the point

A player has exactly one rookie-card year, and for Skenes that was 2024. His RC-logo rookies live in 2024 Topps Update (paper, #US100), 2024 Topps Chrome Update (chromium, #USC27 and #USC88) and 2024 Bowman Chrome #31. His marquee first card is a year earlier: the 2023 Bowman Draft 1st Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto, CDA-PS.

The 2025 Topps Chrome card is his first post-rookie base card — #300, the last number in the 300-card set. It carries no RC logo, and as a group his 2025 cards trade below his 2024 rookies. That’s not a downside — it’s the reason to buy one:

• Cheapest entry to a Chrome Skenes. A 2025 base card is usually the least expensive way to own a genuine on-card Chrome Skenes — good for a first card, a kid’s PC, or a set build.
• The same rainbow for less. Chrome stock means the full refractor ladder — base refractor up through low-numbered colored parallels — just like his rookie year (see Skenes parallels & refractors explained).
• Current-year ink. Chrome and premium products still carry on-card autographs where they’re inserted, so his 2025 signed cards can be scarce and beautiful at a lower entry than the 2024 equivalents.

What drives the price

Three things, in order: parallel (base vs refractor vs numbered color), grade, and eye appeal — the same hierarchy as his rookie Chrome. A raw base refractor and a low-numbered graded color parallel are worlds apart. How to buy it

• Decide which parallel you want first — base, base refractor, or a numbered color — then filter to it, because the price gaps between tiers are large.
