Skenes’s signed cards are the top of his market — and, because of that, the part where counterfeits and altered slabs show up most. This guide covers the autograph families worth knowing, ranked roughly by desirability, how autographs are actually produced and authenticated, and live eBay rails for each type.
The headliners
- 2023 Bowman Draft Chrome Prospect Auto (CDA-PS) — his 1st Bowman Chrome autograph and his signature rookie-era chase. Published ladder: Sparkles Refractor /71, Gold Refractor /50 (plus Gold Wave /50 and HTA-exclusive Gold Shimmer /50), Orange Refractor /25 (jumbo; Orange Wave /25 HTA), Red Refractor /5 (plus Red Lava /5 and Red Wave /5), SuperFractor 1/1, and printing plates. He also has Draft Night (BDNA-PS), Draft Picks & Prospects (DPPA-PS), Class of 2023 (23A-PS) and Glass (BGA-PS, /99) autographs in the same set — BGA-1 is the unsigned Glass insert, not the auto. See parallels and refractors explained for how to read the tier.
- 2024 Topps Chrome Update Rookie Debut Patch Auto (RDPA-PS) — a one-of-one carrying the “MLB Debut” patch that was affixed to his jersey the day he debuted. It is his highest documented sale, bought at auction by the owners of the Dick’s Sporting Goods chain, who put it on permanent display at a store in the Pittsburgh suburbs. The whole 251-card RDPA checklist is one-of-ones, issued as redemptions with no expiration date.
- Not in 2024 Bowman Chrome. He is on neither the Rookie Autographs nor the Prospect Autographs checklist for that product — treat a “signed 2024 Bowman Chrome Skenes” listing with real caution.
- Topps on-card autos — signed directly on the card rather than on an applied sticker; usually preferred over sticker autos at the same numbering and parallel.
- 1/1 Superfractors — the one-of-one chase cards, when they surface; the ceiling of both the refractor ladder and the autograph market at once.

On-card, sticker, and cut — not the same product
Signed cards are produced three different ways, and the method affects both how the auto looks and how the market prices it:
- On-card. The player signs the physical card itself, usually on a refractor or chrome surface built to take ink cleanly. This is the format collectors pay the most premium for, all else equal.
- Sticker auto. The player signs a small foil sticker that’s later applied to the card in production. It’s how most modern autograph cards are actually made — efficient at scale — and it typically sells for less than an equivalent on-card signature, though a clean, well-placed sticker on a strong parallel can still command real money.
- Cut auto. A pre-existing signature (often on a cut piece of paper, a photo, or an index card) is mounted into the card during manufacturing. These are rare relative to sticker/on-card production and usually paired with vintage or retired-player products rather than active rookies, so they’re the least likely format for a current Skenes card — treat any “cut auto” listing with extra scrutiny.
How authentication actually works
A legitimate autograph card carries a manufacturer’s certified autograph statement — printed text on the card back (or a stamped seal) stating the signature was obtained under the manufacturer’s supervision, often with a matching certification number. When a card is later graded, the grading company (PSA, BGS, SGC) re-verifies that statement and encapsulates the card; some companies also note the autograph’s clarity and placement as a separate assessment from the card’s physical condition grade. Always match the printed certification number against the listing’s own photos before buying raw, and prefer graded/slabbed autos for anything beyond pocket-money spend — the full authentication checklist, including how to spot an altered or reprinted cert, lives at how to spot a fake Paul Skenes card.
Where value concentrates
Autograph value stacks the same way base value does — parallel, then numbering, then grade — but the autograph itself is the multiplier, and on-card beats sticker at the same tier. One category sits slightly apart: autograph-relic combos, which pair the signature with an embedded piece of uniform material — see Skenes memorabilia cards for how relics and patches are read and ranked. Use the rails below to pull current listings for each type.
