2024 Topps Chrome Update & Paul Skenes's RC-Logo Rookie

For Paul Skenes’s official rookie card, 2024 Topps Chrome Update is the set to know. Why it’s his true rookie card

Skenes debuted for the Pirates in 2024 as the reigning #1 overall pick, and that’s the year his official rookie cards were printed. Two lines matter:

Unlike his 2023 Bowman Draft cards — chased as his marquee first cards but issued without the RC logo — the Topps Chrome Update cards are true, RC-badged rookies. He appears twice in the base checklist, at #USC27 and #USC88. This set is also home to the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph (RDPA-PS) — a one-of-one carrying the “MLB Debut” patch worn on his jersey the day he came up, which was bought at auction by the owners of the Dick’s Sporting Goods chain and is now on permanent display near Pittsburgh. What drives the price

Three things, in order: parallel (base vs refractor vs numbered color), grade, and eye appeal. A raw base refractor and a low-numbered graded color parallel are worlds apart.
